How I Have Hindered My Family's Terrains and How I can Boost Them in The Future (or Now! )
Biggest concern here is too much SUGAR and too many PROCESSED foods. I so hate that word processed, the word itself makes life easier at the same time it makes me gain 10 lbs. So much easier to to use processed foods in my busy day....but oh the JUNK in it.....no wonder our country is dying of awful disease at an alarming rate....and I am oh too guilty.
My goals :
To feed my family and myself at least 95% of our daily diet from REAL food. If God grew it or put it here for me to eat...it gets an "A" If I make homemade bread or other items in a whole food way with healthy ingredients....it gets a "B" If I buy foods from a "whole foods" store ....they get a B. Everything else gets an "F" and the "F's" need to become very limited.
I want to spend more time outside. I am doing an extensive garden for the first time this year (hopefully, its planned anyway) Would like to do a few nature scavenger hunts with my kids. My girls are playing softball....a great time for me to get out and practice with them. I am so glad its almost spring !
Continue teaching kids about true "needs" and what is having "too much" Teaching the benefit of a simple life...less "things" and enjoying having the sun in their eyes, picking flowers, growing food, cooking, spending time with each other, reading.....etc. Teaching them that putting value in these things can lead to less stress and a content soul.
So glad I am taking this course. Its rather in depth and these are simple questions...but they make me think and plan....which is a good thing :)
Germ Vs Terrain Theory
My Own Abbreviated Philosophy on Germ Vs Terrain Theory.
Thoughts :
Balance in cleanliness is the key. We need to have clean homes, clean bodies - but not be obsessive germ chasers. Our bodies must be exposed to germs to build immunity. Germ fighting is like most areas of our lives. When we don't clean at all or become obsessive anti-bacterialists we are going to extremes, and neither is healthy for our bodies. Our bodies are not sterile, as once thought by the likes of Louis Pasteur and others. He believed that killing off all bacteria in our external ecosystem would eradicate disease. This has been proven false. Our bodies were meant to co-exist with bacteria. Some of which are beneficial and necessary for our bodies. Prevention of disease has been shown to be achieved the best through a balanced view of basic cleanliness and building up ones internal terrain through good nutrition, exercise , reduction of bad stress in our lives. Now, to get my life and the lives of my family in closer alignment with that is the challenge. God lead me !! Ready....Set.....GO !

A Few of My Favorite Things
November 14, 2010
My first blog :) I'm about to turn 40 and I am trying to organize my mind....... I thought I would be more "put together" by now, but instead I feel like a scatterbrained 17 year old in a semi-aching body. Soooo I figure, in my infinite wisdom of course, that if I start a blog maybe it will help me prioritize my life. If you're like me, days fly by. Get up, go to work, come home, take care of kids .......get up, go to work, come home....you get it. Last time I checked the calender, I was turning 35, thinking I needed to start really living each day and not just "get by". By the way, I hate the "double quotes". The "double quotes" irritate me...so in Kirstieland, the "double quotes" are now BANNED! What freedom!
So, I have decided that the first thing I want to do to put some priority in my life, is actually decide what I like. Sounds odd to make it to ALMOST forty and not have a clear cut idea of this in my mind. However, like most moms, my day consists of providing my kids with what they need.....which is a great thing. Somewhere in all of it though, I cant even remember if I ever enjoyed any independent pursuits. Didnt I once like to read for hours? I think I used to enjoy singing? Or was that my mom? No, No, I am pretty sure I at least enjoyed listening to music that had an adult feel to it..... Hmmmmmm Ok, its time to think. Time for quiet reflection to come up with a
LIST OF 10 THINGS I ENJOY THAT DO NOT INCLUDE MY KIDS:
Here we go:
1. Reading. Adult Books. So, to refocus into my 40's....my new goal....Read at least 10 adult books this next year......maybe join a book club.....maybe START a book club??
2. Country music. I love live concerts. Goal.......go to one concert this year.
3. Cooking new dishes. This one should be easy with kids to feed, one would think. However, not when the kids dont like NEW dishes. Goal ....... this has to be realistic to count....two new dishes a month
4. Crap...thats all Ive got right now....time for dinner..this isnt as easy as I thought it would be.
